Why is the Titanic big in Liverpool?
Titanic was built by the White Star Line when Liverpool was at the height of its prosperity. She was born out of Liverpool’s position at the centre of global shipping. The White Star Line had its head office in James Street, Liverpool and Titanic was registered in Liverpool, and so carried the city’s name on her stern. The Titanic may have had Liverpool painted on its stern but the ship never visited the city. Even so, Liverpool can lay claim to be the doomed ship’s spiritual home. Titanic was born and took shape in Albion House, the headquarters of the Liverpool-based White Star Line.Although she never visited Liverpool, Titanic had strong links with her home port. Titanic’s managing company, the White Star Line, had its head office in James Street, Liverpool.
