Can you ride an eFoil in waves?
Experienced eFoilers ride in the waves without the motor turned on. Whether in the ocean or behind a boat, they use the power of the wave to move the board forward. This means foil surfboards have the advantage of enabling riders to stand up on the board without specifically requiring a wave to start. This ability means they can be used on inland lakes and rivers without waves.The foil allows you to go twice as fast even on non-peaking waves. The enhanced speed of foiling makes even average waves to be super fun to ride.In 2015, our co-founder Nick Leason – an engineer and avid surfer – came up with the idea for the original eFoil, applying the technology from smart phones, electric vehicles and even drones into a board that would let its rider fly above any body of water without needing to be propelled by wind or waves.
Can you fly with eFoil?
Yes, you can fly with your eFoil board, wings, and eFoil system (mast), but things get a bit tricky when it comes to the battery (Flitecell). There are important restrictions and considerations you need to be aware of before embarking on an eFoil travel adventure. Flying on a passenger flight with an eFoil battery is currently prohibited. Maximum Allowed Capacity: The maximum battery capacity allowed on a airplane is typically 160Wh and only with airline approval as a carry-on.
Does an eFoil have a motor?
An efoil works by using a motor and battery to lift itself out of the water and glide over the surface, the motor provides the power to the efoil to maintain a steady pace, while the battery provides the energy to power the motor. It is called electric hydrofoil surfboard or efoil for short when it is powered by a motor. Without a motor it is called a hydrofoil surfboard.This means foil drives give riders some support to paddle into waves but require a wave for the main power, while eFoils offer powered riding without needing any wave power.

Because water provides resistance to a ship trying to move through it, the resulting pushback can make a vessel slow down, even at peak operation.Hydrofoiling is generally harder than surfing due to its complex balance and speed management, requiring multiple practice sessions to master.Foils both offer fast, exhilarating rides but in vastly different ways.
