Who made the first skis?
The Samis in Scandinavia are also credited for its creation. The first skis were used primarily for transportation through the snow and were made of whatever types of wood were available in the region, like Pine and Birch. Although skiing’s origins were purely utilitarian, the modern sport evolved from beginnings in Scandinavia. In a ski resort, I top around upper 50s to low 60s. I can’t go much faster due to air resistance caused by my rather baggy ski jacket and pants. Also it becomes unsafe to go faster on a public trail.Wherever there was snow, some form of skis had always been used to get from one place to another, but the idea of going downhill for sport was a peculiarly British invention. The speed at which you ski is largely determined by your own abilities and the terrain you’re skiing on, not the width of your skis.
