Where does Under the radar come from?
During World War II, military pilots began using radar technology to detect enemy aircraft and ships. In response, pilots on the opposing side would fly at low altitudes to avoid radar detection. This tactic was called “flying under the radar. The term RADAR was coined in 1940 by the United States Navy as an acronym for radio detection and ranging. The term radar has since entered English and other languages as an anacronym, a common noun, losing all capitalization.The term RADAR was coined in 1939 by the United States Signal Corps as it worked on these systems for the Navy. Progress during the war was rapid and of great importance, probably one of the decisive factors for the victory of the Allies.
