Where are the Apostle Islands located?
Apostle Islands National Lakeshore is located on the northern-most point in Wisconsin, near Bayfield, along the south shore of Lake Superior. The Bayfield and Little Sand Bay Visitor Centers, as well as, Meyers Beach are accessible by road. Access to the 21 islands is by boat only. Camping is available on 18 of the Lakeshore’s 21 islands, and at one campsite on the mainland. The mainland campsite is only accessible by kayak or a 6-mile hike on the Lakeshore Trail from Meyers Beach. There is NO drive up car, tent, or RV camping available in the Apostle Islands.Hikers can enjoy more than fifty miles of maintained trails on the islands of the National Lakeshore.

Does anyone live on Apostle Islands?
The Town of La Pointe is located on Madeline Island, the only inhabited island of the Apostle Islands. These islands are located at the western end of Lake Superior, and Madeline Island is a 20-minute ferry boat ride from Bayfield, Wisconsin. Madeline Island Ferry Line provides transportation between the picturesque towns of La Pointe and Bayfield. The 25-minute voyage provides spectacular views of the Lake itself and several of the 22 Apostle Islands.The Madeline Island Ferry Line makes several trips a day to Madeline, the largest of the Apostle Islands. Leaving from Bayfield, you can walk, bike, or drive aboard for a scenic 20-minute ride.
