Can you kayak on Llyn Padarn?
Llyn Padarn is one of the most popular lakes in Wales for all manner of watersports, including kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding. You can launch from Snowdonia Watersports or the Gilfach Ddu car park. If you are paddling in a private / recreational capacity there is no launch fee on Llyn Padarn. There are various places to park your car around the lake with associated parking fees, please park responsibly.The lake is a popular place for water sports such as paddleboarding, canoeing, windsurfing and fishing. It is one of only three natural habitats in Wales where Arctic Charr can be found. Arctic charr in Wales, named locally as the torgoch or ‘red belly’, is an iconic wildlife species of the region. These spectacular and colourful lake dwelling fish are closely related to salmon and trout and are a fascinating relic of the last ice age.The whole of Llyn Padarn is a Site of Special Scientific Interest. A rare type of fish called Torgoch, or Arctic charr, lives naturally in this lake and two others in Snowdonia (Bodlyn and Cwellyn).
