What is the lifespan of a cable?
If you purchase electrical cables manufactured according to International Standards, your cables’ lifespan expected to last at least between 20-30 years. The average lifespan for residential wiring in most cases is 50-70 years. Anything older than that sweet spot and you’re just asking for problems.
How long do cables last?
It is generally acknowledged that a cable will last between 25-30 years, based on typical conditions. Although, we have seen cases where the cable far exceeds this timeframe. In fact, the copper conductor itself will be operational for far longer, potentially for 50-100 years. But like any material, it doesn’t last forever—and over time, its effectiveness can decline. In general, fibreglass insulation has a typical lifespan of around 20 to 30 years under ideal conditions.
