What is snow gliding?
The entire snowpack is gliding on the ground, typically on smooth ground such as grassy slopes or smooth rock zones. High activity of glide-snow avalanches is typically related to a thick snowpack with no or only few weak layers. An avalanche is a rapid flow of snow down a slope, such as a hill or mountain.
Is walking in snow healthy?
Walking in snow is physically more demanding than walking on a dry surface. This added resistance means your body works harder, leading to increased calorie burn and muscle strengthening, especially in the legs. For example, walking in colder weather forces your body to work harder to maintain its core temperature, increasing calorie burn. Similarly, walking against the wind requires additional effort and can help you burn more calories.
