What is a kayak cross?
Kayak cross is a combination of all canoeing’s white water disciplines, with competitors racing in identical plastic creek boats. The excitement begins from the very start, with four competitors sliding off a ramp more than two metres above the water and splashing onto the course as one. Kayak cross first appeared on the ICF’s World Cup program in 2015 but will be new to the Olympic program in 2024.
Is the kayak cross in the 2028 Olympics?
After making its Olympic debut at Paris 2024, Kayak Cross returns to the program in 2028 with high expectations of excitement and public interest. After a short break, the Games return to the water at the historic Marine Stadium in Long Beach, with the Canoe Sprint events running from July 25 to 29. The Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium will host canoe/kayak and will also serve as the hub for the rowing competitions. Opened in 2019, the Nautical Stadium was the first new Olympic facility to be completed in preparation for Paris 2024.
