If you want to ride more casual; flat areas, mellow hills, then a surfskate would make sense. Surfboards literally come in all shapes and sizes. There are many different categories of surfboards and if you want you can divide them into as many different subcategories as you want. However, there are five main types of surfboards: Shortboard, Fish, Funboard, Longboard and Gun. A beginner surfer should begin learning and honing in on their skills on a surfboard that is considered long in length. Any surfboard over 210 cm is ideal. The increased measurement of length makes it so that the other dimensions are also larger, as more foam must go into shaping the beginner surfboard.SHORTBOARD. Common Sizes: 5’5″ – 6’4″ long 16″ – 19″ wide The shortboard is the most common style used by advanced and professional surfers as they are designed to maximize speed and maneuverability.Height is an important factor when choosing a surfboard, but it works alongside weight and skill level. For beginners, your surfboard should generally be 1–3 feet taller than you. For example, if you’re 5’8, a board around 7’8–8’8 would be ideal.Starting with shortboards which commonly measure between 5′ and 7′ feet, surfers can expect these sized boards to range between 5 and 8 lbs. The reason we recommend longboarding for beginners is that it’s easier to master than skateboarding.If you have a lot of rough ground to cover on your commutes, a longboard cruiser will provide a smoother ride than a cruiser board. Additionally, for cruising long distances, you will not have to push as much if you have a proper longboard cruiser.
