How do surf lakes work?

Surf Lakes uses a hydraulic/pneumatic system to lift and drop the CWD. Compressed air is pushed through a ‘U-Tube’ to lift the CWD, before releasing the air pressure and dropping it into the lake. This process takes about six seconds and is repeated multiple times to create a ‘set’ of waves. Waves in the surf lake are generated by moving water over a shallow profile that causes a wave to form, and then fold on itself. Just like an ocean swell becomes a breaking wave when it moves over a reef or sandy beach.

Can you surf at Surf Lakes?

Surf Lakes supports progression. Our design means every ability surfs together & every ability can surf every hour. Everyone gets a break! Learning to surf at 40, 50, and beyond may feel like a daunting task. But you’re never too old to fall in love with something new, particularly when it’s something as rewarding and inviting as surfing. You might be surprised to hear that many older adults learn to surf later in life. And it’s about having a load of fun in the process! One of the incredible benefits of learning to surf in a wave pool, is getting to know other like-minded individuals who love to surf, and to champion their progress whatever their level. The surf instruction is well-structured, methodical, and easy to follow. As a seventy-year-old, I was not the typical surf-school student, but I had the time of my life and learned to surf, which I had wanted to do for many years. If I could do it, well, why not you?
