Can you walk dogs on East Witting beach?
Well behaved dogs are allowed everywhere on the beach at Bracklesham and East Wittering. However, at Selsey there is a dog free zone (May-September) by East Beach slipway (see CDC website for further details). In summer (May to September), dogs are allowed on the beach, but only permitted outside groynes 14A-18. This is essentially the area directly in front of the coloured beach huts.
Why can’t dogs drink salt water?
The high salt content throws off the balance of electrolytes in your dog’s body. This imbalance pulls water from the bloodstream into the intestines, causing severe dehydration and potentially dangerous sodium levels in the blood. Dogs who chase toys in the water or bite at waves face higher risks. After your dog’s last splash, don’t skip the rinse. It’s important to clean off salt, chlorine, algae, bacteria, and sand. Left on the coat, these can cause itching, irritation, or even infections.
Do you have to wash your dog after the beach?
So, you’ve finished up at the beach for the day. Do you need to run your dog a long bath, or just need to rinse them off quickly? In short, it’s best to rinse and wash them thoroughly, as your dog may have lots of sand, salt and other bits in their coat, which may cause skin irritation. Yes, dogs can feel better after a bath, especially if they are dirty, itchy, or have certain skin conditions, but excessive bathing can cause dryness or irritation.
