Can we wear jeans for river rafting?
Don’t do this! Whitewater rafting is not like a scenic float trip down the river—you’re going to get wet. Jeans or a polo shirt will be sopping wet by the end of your trip and they’ll stay that way until you’re able to change. T-shirts, shorts, and swimsuits are all good decisions when preparing for your rafting trip. Instead of wearing flip flops, put on a pair of old sneakers or water shoes. Be sure to wear plenty of sunscreen and consider wearing sunglasses with a retaining strap.Footwear: The best shoes for rafting are ones that stay on your feet and can get wet. Choose water shoes, water sandals with a heel strap or an old pair of sneakers you don’t mind getting soaked. If it’s chilly, you can wear wool socks under your shoes or sandals.Bathing Suit This should be the first thing you pack. You’re going to want to wear something that dries quickly when it gets wet, and bathing suits are designed to do just that. Most people who raft with us are comfortable in just a swimsuit and shorts!The clothing you should wear for a guided rafting trip includes quick-drying materials, such as synthetic shorts and a moisture-wicking shirt. Don’t forget to wear supportive footwear, and consider bringing a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen for sun protection.Most people find a small, 15-20 liter waterproof dry bag is an ideal size to keep essentials accessible on the raft. On commercial trips, these will usually be provided. For best results and to ensure it’s actually waterproof, you should be able to fold the top of the bag at least three times before latching it closed.
Can you go rafting barefoot?

And while maintaining moderate body temperature in cold water splashes, they are suitable white water rafting shoes for winter.Any shoes without backs that could slip off your feet aren’t ideal for white water rafting. Shoes you should avoid include boots, heels, Crocs, and flip flops. Because the inside of the raft will become wet, you want to be sure you can maintain good footing.Can you wear Crocs white water rafting? What is the maximum age for white water rafting?
There’s no set maximum age for rafting with us—in fact, our oldest rafter was 86! However, we do require that rafters meet the expected level of physical fitness and be free from any serious medical conditions. If you’re uncertain about rafting with a specific medical condition, please don’t hesitate to reach out. There is an age limit for rafting that is a minimum of 15 years and a maximum of 60 years. There is a weight limit of a minimum of 40kg and a maximum of 100kg.Kids that are 10 years old and up to early teens seem to be able to handle full day trips with 3-5 or more hours of river time. Middle teens and up should be able to enjoy long days on the river and overnight river rafting trips.A: A child should be minimum of 12 years of age for rafting and other water sports activities in Rishikesh. For rafting more than 9 kms, minimum age of eligibility is 18 years.For the Youngest The Young Rafters Trip allows kids as young as 4 years old to experience rafting the American River. For kids as young as 4 years old, the Young Rafters trip on the South Fork American is the perfect introduction into the whitewater rafting world.
Do you wear socks in white water rafting?
If it’s chilly, you can wear wool socks under your shoes or sandals. Headwear: Bring a paddling hat or a baseball cap. Make sure your ball cap can be cinched tight to keep it from getting washed overboard if a big wave crashes over the raft. Though you may be given a helmet, a cap visor offers added sun protection. Quick-drying water shorts are a great option for days when the water is warm enough that wetsuits aren’t necessary—that way, you’re not just wearing your bathing suit against the rubber of the raft. Lightweight, quick-drying pants or synthetic leggings are a good choice, too.Wear quick-drying shorts or pants over your swimsuit (not necessary if your swimsuit has a short bottom). Good options include baggy shorts or athletic leggings. The rafting company will provide you with a PFD (life jacket) and a helmet. Consider tying it up with a braid or two if you have long hair.Cotton underwear, for example, is not a good idea: it absorbs water, dries slowly, and can cause chafing as you move. Loose-fitting clothing is also not recommended, as it can bunch up and fold under your wetsuit, which not only feels uncomfortable but also affects the fit of the suit.Choose quick-drying, moisture-wicking fabrics like synthetic shirts and shorts. These are examples of proper clothing for rafting. Do you have to be fit to do white water rafting?
Moderate Fitness: The good news is that you don’t need to be an elite athlete to enjoy white water rafting. A moderate level of physical fitness is sufficient for most rafting trips, especially those designed for families and beginners. Rafting can be strenuous and help build endurance. You need to sustain your paddling on the river as you maneuver obstacles and make your way downstream. It’s a fantastic cardio (aerobic) workout. If you do it regularly, rafting can help get your stamina and endurance to peak levels.Class I and Class II river rafting trips are the easiest adventures we offer and are suitable for younger kids, (ages 4+), non-swimmers, timid children and seniors. Rapids are wide and clear offering splashy fun!Hiking, biking, or even a day at the pool swimming can be great fun and excellent preparation for your rafting trip. Paddle Together: If possible, rent a canoe or a kayak and spend a day on the water. It’s a great way to practice paddling, get a feel for water dynamics, and enjoy time together as a family.Synthetic clothing, like what you wear to the gym, will make for a much more comfortable rafting experience. You may love your jeans, but they don’t make for the best pants for the river. Swim shorts, gym shorts, or a wet suit are all much better options.
Do you get wet in rafting?
Rafting is a wet sport by its very nature. You will get wet, and the thrill of it all will make you crave a good splash in the face. Whether it be your guide or a guide in a different boat, someone will likely be giving you instructions and working to get you back into a raft. Guides always point in the direction that they’ll want you to swim. The quicker you can respond to them, the quicker they’ll be able to assist you in the water.Always float on your back with your face out of the water. All the while, keep your feet at or above the surface of the water. Keep your arms out to the side to help slow down and maneuver in the river. Be aware of your position in relation to the raft.
What is the best time of day to go white water rafting?
By choosing a morning rafting trip, you ensure your river experience is quieter and more peaceful. Your guide also won’t be battling for river space, and the rapids may be more enjoyable. Typically, April through June water levels hit their prime and the rafting conditions are unbeatable allowing us access to rivers that might not be available later in the spring.
