Can jellyfish sting through a stinger suit?
The suit provides an extra layer of protection but that doesn’t mean it’s 100% full proof when it comes to preventing jellyfish stings. It’s believed that more than 40 people (and probably as many as 100 or more) die each year from box jellyfish stings.
Do stinger suits really work?
Often made out of nylon or spandex for ultimate comfort when in the water, stinger suits not only offer a high level of protection against the harmful stings of jellyfish but can also help to keep out the sun’s UV rays while you’re swimming, surfing or undertaking a number of different water sports. Throughout the warmer months, typically from November to May, jellyfish season poses a risk. Two types of stingers, the Irukandji and the box jellyfish, are around during this time, causing harm and, in severe cases, even death.
