Can a 60 hp boat pull a tube?
Depends on the boat, Motor and Prop. My 2020 175TXW with a 60 wouldn’t pull a tube worth a crap (about 30mph straight and down to about 15mph in a tight turn) until I switched to a 4 blade spitfire prop and added a ball to keep the rope out of the water. The motors used to power tubes need to be able to provide about one horsepower for every 40 pounds of weight. The boat should be able to reach a speed of about 20mph in order to tow a tube. If you plan on towing more than one tube, you should consider a pontoon boat with a higher horsepower. For bass boats and center consoles, horsepower usually ranges from 90 to 300+. It depends on whether you’re navigating small lakes or offshore waters.
How many HP do you need to pull a tube?
You can do it with 1hp if you really wanted to. But kind of need to know what size and type of boat. So a 9. HP is a popular choice for Jon boat owners since it can accommodate a majority of Jon boat models (10 ft, 12 ft, 14 ft, and even larger size) as long as the weight is within limit. So why do they make 9. HP outboards instead of 10 HP? Simply put, some lakes allow boat motors under 10 HP only.
