How to select harness size?
When sizing for a harness, you want to know the size of the chest, because that’s what the harness is going around, says Melinda Rosato, manager of The Hungry Puppy in New Jersey. Girth is the measurement of your dog’s chest, the area of his body immediately behind his front legs. Always start with the girth. When properly sized, you should be able to fit two fingers between the harness and your dog’s body. Additionally, it should not cause the skin around your dog’s neck or shoulders to bunch up. Nor should you see any indentations in his fur when you remove the harness.Generally more secure. A harness fastens around the dog’s body providing more security and safety, making it less likely for your dog to slip out. What do the sizes of harnesses mean?
They use neck, arm, chest, and torso measurements to determine the dimensions for each size. Full-body safety harness manufacturers, however, consider your whole body’s height, weight, and shape. Full-body safety harnesses must fit snugly to the body for safety. Shirts are often designed to have a looser fit. A universal safety harness may come in two sizes: a One Size Fits Most and XL-XXL. Be sure to check the weight capacity before using a harness. Most rely on total weight from the worker, clothes, outerwear, tools, and equipment. The One Size Fits Most may have a weight capacity range of up to 310 pounds.Harness sizes are usually based on your height and weight. Just because you feel comfortable in a size XL t-shirt doesn’t mean you’ll automatically be wearing a size XL harness. Sure, you want to be comfortable, but a harness is designed to fit snug and tight to the body.
How to know what size harness to get for climbing?

How to find a good fitting harness?

Should a harness be tight or loose?

Is the harness too small?
The harness should fit snugly on the chest area. You should be able to fit two fingers between the harness and the dog. If the strap is too loose, the dog can slip out of the harness. An overly tight strap will mean the harness is uncomfortable and may cause chafing. To test if your harness is properly adjusted, you should be able to fit your fingers snugly underneath the leg straps, while the chest strap should provide slight resistance when you try to fit your palm underneath. A harness that allows fitting of an entire fist is too loose.Ensure the harness is not tight or pinching anywhere on the body when standing or sitting—you should be able to fit two fingers under the straps.A well-fitting harness should fit snugly above your hipbones and the “rise” (the distance between the leg loops and waist belt) should be comfortable. A harness that fits correctly cannot be pulled down over your hipbones. Whether fixed or adjustable, the leg loops should be snug but not tight.The safety harness should not hinder your range of motion.
