Where does SailGP take place?
The Rolex SailGP Championship is a global racing circuit that takes place in iconic locations all over the world, including the likes of San Francisco, Auckland, Sydney and Rio de Janeiro. Each location brings different weather conditions, which means SailGP’s racecourse is always changing. SailGP will have revenue between $100 million and $150 million this year, a huge increase from the $10 million the league generated in its 2019 debut season. The league is on the verge of profitability and now selling its teams for $50 million or more.The SailGP boats, worth about $6 million apiece, are regularly updated to include the latest technology. They can travel at four times the wind speed, but are complicated to operate: the crews need extreme skill and athleticism.Each SailGP event consists of two days of competitive racing. The first day has three fleet races, while the second day has two fleet races and a match race final. The final race of the season is a match race between the highest-scoring crews over the season, with the winner earning a US$1 million prize.Annual operating costs remain high due to the significant expenses incurred for logistics and production at each event, which cost millions. However, SailGP is expected to generate $100 million to $150 million in revenue this season, a sizable increase from the $10 million it generated in its debut season in 2019.
