Lake Anna’s Public side is much larger, encompassing approximately 9,000 surface acres, wherein the private side makes up approximately 4,000 surface acres. The public side touches all three surrounding counties (Spotsylvania, Louisa & Orange), while the Private Side is entirely in Louisa County. The main differences? Nestled within Louisa, Orange and Spotsylvania Counties and conveniently located near three major Virginia cities—Fredericksburg, Charlottesville and Richmond—Lake Anna makes for a delightful getaway weekend or a weeklong vacation.In the state of Virginia, anyone operating a motorized boat is required to have a boater’s license. If you don’t have one, you can obtain a temporary boater’s license from any marina at Lake Anna for a small fee.Nearby towns include historic Louisa County, Orange, Culpeper, Spotsylvania and Fredericksburg, all located within a 30-minute drive of Lake Anna.Lake Anna Boat Rentals offer a variety of watercraft for rent on Lake Anna, a popular recreation spot in Virginia. How much does it cost to swim at Lake Anna?
Swimming? Yes, there is a public swimming area at the state park and there is a charge of $3 for those over the age of $13 and $2 for children aged 3-12 during the week. The rates are an additional $1 on weekends. Can you launch your boat at the Lake Anna State Park? Is there a charge for the Lake Anna State Park? Yes, there is a parking charge for passenger vehicles of $6 on weekdays and $7 on weekends. Prime weekends include an additional $2 charge. If you’re visiting the park and are a Virginia resident, you save $2.Lake Anna State Park opened to the public in July 1983. The park features a guarded swimming beach, an accessible fishing pond, and a boat ramp. While boating and fishing on this beautiful lake are major attractions, these are only some of the park’s offerings.The private side is private in the sense that there are no public boat launch facilities. Many beautiful homes adorn the serene, wooded landscape on both sides. You’ll find Lake Anna is a proven year-round fishery and one of the best lakes to fish for largemouth bass on the eastern seaboard.
Why can’t you swim in Lake Anna?
There are many different kinds of HABS. Unfortunately, they can make people super sick. Like any other body of water, Lake Anna has these harmful algae blooms during the hot months, starting in July or August and sometimes even as early as June. This way you can make sure to stay away from potentially dangerous areas or times where an algae bloom is present and unsafe for swimming. YES, Lake Anna is safe to swim in 2023! The good news is that Lake Anna is still safe to swim as long as you keep up-to-date on the latest advisories from the HAB Task Force.
Can you eat fish from Lake Anna?
Lake Anna is home to a variety of fish that are fun to catch and delicious to eat. Species include, Largemouth Bass, Striped Bass, Black Crappie, Bluegill, Channel Catfish, Walleye, & White Perch. FISHING, BOATING Fishing: Lake Anna is well-known for its largemouth bass, crappie, bream. A variety of other freshwater fish can also be found. A valid Virginia fishing license is required. A 2-acre fishing pond designed for children and disabled persons only is located near the visitor center.Lake Anna is home to a variety of fish that are fun to catch and delicious to eat.
