On July 7, he cut a rectangular shape of polyethylene foam and covered it with newspaper. The first bodyboard was born, and history was made. Bodyboarding will be 50 years old in 2021.In 1977, Morey sold the Boogie Board name and company. Today its owned by the Wham O toy company. Because of the trademark, boards that are similar to Morey’s invention are called bodyboards. The impact of Boogie Boards is still seen today and was celebrated in July when Morey’s invention turned 50 years old.Surfer, inventor and musician Tom H. Morey, known for creating the ubiquitous Boogie board, died on Oct 14. He was 86. Morey’s squat foam board revolutionized the surfing industry in the 1970s, turning the tricky task of wave riding into an accessible sport for the beachgoing masses.

Cheap Bodyboards: These cores are less responsive and provide less buoyancy compared to high-density cores. Deck and Bottom: They often have a slick, low-grade plastic bottom and a soft, easily compressible deck material. These materials are less durable and may deteriorate faster. As foam surfboards are made of a considerably softer material than fibreglass boards, we recommend using either a cool water wax with a very light hand or, for the guaranteed correct application, you can use bodyboard wax.Soft Top Surfboards are the recommended choice for complete beginners. Their buoyancy and durability from bumps and bangs make them a perfect option for your family to take turns on. If you are serious about quickly becoming a good surfer, however then a fiberglass surfboard is the way to go.Entry-level bodyboards may lack durability and can break easily, especially if exposed to rough waves and prolonged use. More expensive boards have a stronger cores, often have stringers (strengthening strips of wood running down their length) and are generally much stronger and will last a lot longer.Softer-flex bodyboards (typically EPS and PE bodyboards) are going to be more forgiving and be easier to turn.
