Who invented the Skurfer?
Later in 1985, California surfer Tony Finn invented the Skurfer, a shorter, more narrow version of a surfboard with foot straps. Although the Skurfer was originally trademarked by Tony Finn, the word skurfing was potentially first coined in New Zealand by surfboard shaper Allan Byrne. He designed a new board that was a cross between a surfboard and a water ski, aptly naming it the “skurfer. Skiboarding,” as he called it, paved the way to what is now known as wakeboarding, but not without effort.Tony Finn is often referred to as the Father of Wakeboarding, and for good reason. His invention of the wakeboard has had a profound impact on the sport, making it what it is today.
