Which mast is the main mast?
When a vessel has two masts, as a general rule, the main mast is the one setting the largest sail. Therefore, in a brig, the forward mast is the foremast and the after mast is the mainmast. The top is the maindeck. The cabin is the captains cabin. The balcony on the aft is called the poopdeck The deck on top of the captains cabin is called the bridge. The masts from front to aft are called the fore mast, main mast and mizzen mast. The deck which houses the harpoons is caled the forecastle.
