Our instructors guide them every step of the way, making sure they’re confident, safe, and having fun. Water skiers are most at risk for injuring their legs, and the injury is most often a muscle strain or a joint sprain. On the other hand, wakeboarders tend to get more cuts, especially to their head. Unfortunately, wakeboarders are also more likely to incur a brain injury like a concussion.Both sports require leg and chest strength, but since you have to balance both your legs on the wakeboard (vs one ski on each leg), wakeboarding takes more core strength.Wakeboarding can seem intimidating at first, but it’s actually one of the more accessible water sports for beginners. Like any new activity, there’s a learning curve, but with the right gear, attitude, and a bit of patience, most people can get up and riding within their first few sessions.Legs are injured the most often while water skiing. Cuts are the most common wakeboarding injury. Head and face injuries are the most common for wakeboarders. Wakeboarders are more likely to have a traumatic brain injury than water skiers.Cable wakeboarding requires significant core strength. Your core muscles stabilize your body and help you maintain balance on the board. To improve your control, engage your core throughout your ride. This doesn’t mean tensing up, but rather keeping your core activated to support your movements.

While some parents who are avid skiers will take their 1 ½ year-olds along swaddled in baby backpacks, most skiing and snowboarding schools require a child to be at least three years old and potty-trained to be in a group lesson. Can you start skiing at 60?
As long as your body is capable, you can ski into your 80s and 90s. I taught a lot of older people. But it’s important to have some basis in physicality before you start. That goes with anything: you just don’t go out and do it. Today, providing you are fit, there is absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t ski in your 50s, 60s, 70s and even into your 80s. Modern ski equipment is far more advanced than years ago – skis are wider, so its easier to turn.
