What is the Surfline app?
The Surfline Android app is the only surfing application with LIVE streaming HD cams at over 100 breaks in the US and Hawaii. This app provides the most accurate surf reports and forecast up to five days in advance for thousands of surf spots worldwide. It is impossible to make an exact prediction of the surf (shape and size of breaking waves), but by knowing a few factors a good prediction can be made.Using Computer Vision (a form of AI*), we analyse and break down what our Smart Cams are seeing, and thus generate live insights from the surf zone: wave height, wave frequency, ridden vs unridden waves, number of surfers in the lineup, and more.

What is Surfline used for?
Surfing relies heavily on understanding and anticipating ocean conditions. With the Surfline app, surfers can access detailed forecasts that predict wave height, wind direction, swell period, and tide times. Surfline is an online surf forecasting service founded in 1985 by Southern California surfers Jerry Arnold, Craig Masuoka, and David Wilk.Surfline is accurate for estimates of energy, period, direction, wind, and of course spot on with tide. It’s up to you to know what that means for your particular spots. Basically surfline just owns a by mathematical model. They use weather data from all over the world as an input to that model.Surfline’s surf quality scale – 1 = FLAT: No waves mean no surfing. VERY POOR: The forecast may include words like lack of surf, bad, or even very stormy. POOR: Due to wind and a poor tide, there are only some fair waves to surf this morning. POOR to FAIR: Low to average waves.
Who owns the Surfline app?
In March 2000, Surfline was acquired by surf website Swell. Surfline is a company and website based in Huntington Beach, California that specializes in surf forecasting and surf reports, live webcasting, photography, videography, as well as editorial coverage of the sport of surfing.Surfline was founded in 1985 as a pay-per-call telephone surf report based on weather, the National Weather Service’s buoy data, and telephone reports from young surfers that travelled to beach sites to observe the waves in-person.
