What is HSE in diving?
Before beginning training, all diving trainees must be examined by a Health and Safety Executive (HSE) Approved Medical Examiner of Divers (AMED). If passed fit, the AMED will issue a certificate of medical fitness to dive. Minimum Age: You must be at least 18 years old. Physical Fitness: Commercial diving requires rigorous physical activity, so you must pass a dive medical examination performed by a UHMS (Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society) doctor.Because of the high risks and the technical nature of the work, saturation divers are among the highest-paid professionals in the commercial diving field. They must undergo rigorous training and certification, as well as maintain peak physical and mental health.Most commercial diving programs require candidates to be at least 18 years old. What do you need for HSE scuba course?
A: You need to hold a recreational diving qualification in order to start on the HSE Scuba Course with us. PADI Open Water / BSAC Ocean Diver or equivalent is accepted. You don’t need to have any experience though. During the HSE Professional Scuba you will learn about Full Face Masks (AGA, EXO, KMB18/28), hard wire communications, through water communications, lifeline signals, decompression procedures, and Decompression Chamber procedures, none of which are taught within the recreational spectrum to this level.
What is the most recognized diving certification?
PADI (the Professional Association of Diving Instructors) is the most recognized dive training organization worldwide with over 30 million divers and counting. PADI Dive Instructors undergo rigorous training to ensure your scuba certification class is fun and safe. Is one cheaper than the other one? SSI is usually cheaper, as they don’t insist that the student buy a manual/app for the course. You can borrow one of the dive centers ‘library’ books or use the app for free!In terms of dive training, there is very little difference between SSI and PADI. They both follow the diving standards set by WRSTC (World Recreational Scuba Training Council) meaning that knowledge and skill requirements are almost the same. What are the risks of commercial diving?
Unlike recreational diving, commercial divers often face zero visibility, contaminated water, and pressure differentials while using industrial tools. In reality, recreational divers typically use air (approximately 21% oxygen and 79% nitrogen) or Enriched Air Nitrox (ranging from 22% to 40% oxygen with the remainder filled in with nitrogen). In summary, scuba divers never use pure oxygen.To minimize these effects, divers who must dive to great depths typically breathe a special mixture of gases rather than regular air. Low concentrations of oxygen are used, diluted with helium rather than nitrogen, because helium does not cause narcosis.
Is commercial diving a good career?
Being a commercial diver can be a highly rewarding career. It offers strong earning potential, opportunities for travel, and the chance to work in diverse and challenging environments. However, it’s also physically demanding and requires specialized training. Once the divers have qualified, the 14-week Commercial Diver training program is followed by an additional 12-week ‘Work Experience Program’ with collaborative commercial diving partner companies and organisations in various locations across Southern Africa and Internationally.
