The velodrome is the third 250 m (270 yd) covered track in Great Britain. One lap is 250 metres, and the bankings are 42½ degrees. We’re one of the busiest Velodromes in the world, and the track is in constant use thanks to the comprehensive programme of activities for all levels of ability.For World Championships and Olympic Games, velodromes are 250m. The length of the track is measured 20cm above the inner edge of the track (the upper edge of the blue band). The length of the track multiplied by a round number of laps or half laps equals 1,000m.
What safety equipment is required at Lee Valley VeloPark?
Velodrome Track riders are required to wear clothing that covers the shoulders. BMX riders are required to wear clothing that fully covers the arms and legs. Shorts and short-sleeve shirts are not permitted. Mountain Bike Trails (Skills Area) riders are required to wear clothing that covers the shoulder. Cycling shorts or running shorts and trainers are ideal, or you can hire our cycling shoes (please wear socks). If you’re wearing long trousers or tracksuit bottoms, they need to be tucked into your socks. We can provide you with a helmet for the session if required (included in the cost of the session).
